Kevin Moore, Associate Broker, Mediator, Certified Probate Real Estate Specialist
Since I’m the elder, (I actually just wrote that lol) I get the first shot at sharing a few thoughts and some background on our history and business experience. Although I’ll do my best to keep this short, don’t hold your breath. Nothing is short around here…except me.
On Tuesday, October 9th, 1984, I stepped off of the plane in Saginaw, Michigan and into the surreal world of Detroit Tigers baseball and the 1984 World Series. As a contractor in the land/legal department of a global oil company, it was my first experience in the Midwest and it was the beginning of this amazing journey that I am still happily living today.
Working with the land/legal department at Shell Western E&P was never dull. During this time, I was able to experience everything from the calculation of fractional interests in the sale of producing zones, to the diversity of negotiating leasehold agreements with farm families, factory workers and attorneys, sometime all within the same day.
This time in my career is responsible for my understanding of the chain of title, surface and mineral ownership, oil and gas leasehold interests and for my ability to negotiate contracts effectively and to work closely with both families and legal professionals.
By the time the company was ready to move me back south, the decision to stay in Michigan had already been made and in 1988, I became licensed to deal with surface real estate. Trained first in residential sales, I soon moved to the firm’s commercial department. From there, I was eventually recruited to the development arm of one of the largest construction companies in West Michigan where my first introduction to both small and larger development projects took place.
After teaming up with the lead broker there, we opened our own firm and brokered/leased commercial properties, performed site selection for franchise clients and represented their interests in front of many different municipal boards. When licensure requirements changed, other specialized experience allowed us to meet the new state and federal requirements for appraisal practice and we opened and built our own real estate appraisal company to over 20 employees by the second year.
A lot of growth has happened since I sold my interest in these businesses. Almost two decades ago, one of the most important of these changes came when we were asked to help address the real estate needs of a family who had been seriously injured in an automobile accident. Through this true labor of love, we learned about serving those with disabilities, accessible housing and the world of conservatorships and the Probate Court. Since then, it has been our honor to partner with these fiduciaries in their various roles, along with the legal professionals that advise them.
Between my Sophomore and Junior years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I was given the opportunity to be “taken under his wing” by my step father’s friend. The Las Vegas real estate market was sizzling and he thought that I’d be perfect for selling new construction homes for his large development and construction company. When the possibility of a six figure income was thrown arounds, it sounded almost too good to pass up. (temptation is a real thing in Vegas)
After giving my father the details of the potential opportunity and letting him know that I would be working directly for the owner of the business, he said that it sounded like an excellent opportunity. But, he also suggested that I do something more before making my decision. His exact words were, “If a man says, ‘I’m and apple tree, I’m an apple tree, I’m and apple tree, but you don’t see any apples, he’s not an apple tree”. Huh?! What?..But, after explaining his crazy metaphor, I knew I needed more information.
My potential mentor was wealthy, had a successful business, a house on the golf course and his pick of several high end cars.
And, since he would be the one teaching me how to get the life he had, I needed to be sure that it was one I wanted.
After suggesting that I spend some time shadowing him through his day, he agreed and said that it would be a great chance for us to get to know one another better. I knew that it would be important for me to ask good questions, observe how he conducted his business and how he treated his customers, friends and family.
In the end, it was an easy call. What was important to him was good for him, but it ran counter to what I wanted for my life. This event was a water shed moment and caused me to take a serious look at what was really important to me. It wasn’t long before I made the decision to transfer to Grand Valley State University and finish my degree in Business Management.
Fast forward to the present and Grand Rapids has been my home now for over two decades. Today, I’ve found those things that I’ve always wanted for both my professional and personal life. In my 19th year in the real estate business, I have the honor of serving an amazing group of friends and past clients that always keep me busy with a stream of others to serve.
I absolutely love my senior clients, and it’s gratifying to help them (and their adult children) transition into homes that can serve them in the next chapter of their lives. Since I’ve also worked in accessible housing from the beginning of my career, these two passions keep things fresh and full of rewards that go well beyond anything monetary. In between, I’m also responsible for running the day to day business and management of our company.

I’m the guy responsible for the cameras, everything we do with the cameras, the drones that fly the cameras and making what the cameras put out look really good. As a family, we love being creative so it’s gratifying for us to bounce ideas off each other in an effort to produce thought provoking, educational and informational videos that are a benefit to others. Since we are a family of entrepreneurs, our businesses are intertwined with who we are. In my role as Creative Director, I produce podcasts, videos, film and build ads and produced all of the audio and visual support for both ExpectMoore Realty and Missing Logic, my mother and her partner’s leadership coaching and consulting business.
Over the last 5 years, we’ve successfully produced over 260 weekly podcast episodes of Healthcare’s Missing Logic.
